The last couple of weeks have been pretty jam-packed with activities. I traveled to Baltimore to present at a conference with a few of my favorite friends and then Corey and I spent Thanksgiving week traveling almost every single day to spend time with our families and friends.
I almost didn’t realize that my birthday was sneaking up on me.
Yesterday I turned the big 2-8.
Throughout the day, I found myself reflecting on the past 365 days and all that happened during my 27th year of life.
27 was a year of some of the highest highs and one of the lowest lows. Getting engaged and spending the summer in London definitely rank at the top of my list of Most Memorable Life Events Ever.
But 27 also had a low point to balance out all the good things.
My family lost our rock, my sweet grandma, affectionately nicknamed “Lil G” (short for Little Grandma, of course), back at the beginning of the year. It was a pretty sudden loss and one that shook us to the core. I’ve always known how lucky I am to have such an extremely tight-knit extended family, and it was nice to be able to lean on one another to pull us all through such a hard time.
I also know I’m lucky to have made it to age 27 before I lost my last grandparent, but there are just some people who will always seem invincible, even to a 27 year old.
Being in the midst of our first holiday season without our grandma has been tough so far and I’m sure it’ll just get more and more difficult the closer we get to Christmas. But we’ll make it through, as families always do.
Even though 27 has been filled with ups and downs, it’s still going to be a hard year to top.
But I think 28 is going to give it a run for its money.
I can’t wait to see what this year has in store. Here’s to hoping it’ll include another trip or two overseas!
